Open Reading Period for PROSE–ISH: July 15–August 15, 2015

We are pleased to announce we will be holding an open reading period from July 15 thru August 15th, 2015 for chapbooks that will be part of our new series: PROSE–ISH.

This series seeks work on the boundary line between prose and poetry, that purposefully plays with our sense of this distinction and with categories of writing in general. If you think your work might resist being labeled as either poetry or prose, or aims to engage with both of these practices, please send us manuscripts of between 6 and 30 pages. We are interested in work that is surprising and experimental in form or content. We are especially interested in reading work from under-represented communities: writers of color, queer and trans writers, women writers, older emerging writers, and writers who make their homes outside of major literary centers. If you would like to send a short bio along with your submission, we would love to learn more about you though it is by no means necessary.

We do not charge a fee for submissions but ask that you buy a chapbook from us or from another small press that you admire as a small way of participating as both a reader and writer within writing communities. Please pass this message on to anyone who you think might be interested.

All submissions should be sent to doublecrosspress@gmail.com by midnight of August 15th, 2015.

We are also always reading manuscripts for our Poetics of the Handmade series (essays on bookmaking and small press culture), and will have poetry-specific reading periods in the future. If you have previously submitted work to us and we were not able to take it in the past, we urge you to please try again.
