Country Music :: Nathan Hauke & Kirsten Jorgenson (Ark Press)

"Historically, friendship has housed poetry not only in terms of readerships (think of all the poetries born of friendship), but also in terms of presses. When good work was not/is not able to find an equally good home for too long, friends start their own press. They publish their friends' work; they make new friends in the process. These small presses are the no kill shelter for experimental writing." (6)

THE BOOK

Country Music is the second essay in the Poetics of the Handmade Series, which asks writer-bookmakers to discuss the whys, hows, and wherefores of micropress publishing. This essay by Ark Press publishers Nathan Hauke and Kirsten Jorgenson discusses Ark's projects in its first year: writing workshops, readings, poetics talks, broadsides and chapbooks, all made and carried on in the small town of Todd, North Carolina.

The first 50 copies of this book feature the handmade paper label shown above; the remainder of the edition's  labels will be printed on green Ingres paper. Small press publishers and other makers are invited to trade for a copy of this essay: please email doublecrosspress@gmail.com to discuss trades. Otherwise, the book costs $5.
